How are tutors matched with a family?

Once referred to the Refugee Tutoring program, families are placed on our waiting list for tutors.

When a tutoring group is ready to start tutoring, the VoRTCS team will look at the region where the tutors are available to tutor in and any preferences for the age of tutoring students, and will find a suitable family match.

Tutors are matched with a family on the basis of the following details:

  • the location of the family and how this correlates with the areas the tutoring group are willing to visit;
  • the ratio of tutors to family members who need tutoring;
  • the age of the family members who need tutoring, and how that correlates with tutor preferences;
  • if there are particular areas that the family have requested help with;
  • if experienced tutors are requested; and
  • if tutors of a particular gender are requested;

Once a suitable family match has been found, your tutoring group members will each receive an email from the VoRTCS team which sets out the details of the family and information about the next steps in the tutoring process.

If you have any questions about the family matching process, you should contact the VoRTCS team on .
