The Learning in Harmony Project
was developed by the VoRTCS Refugee Tutoring Program as a way for the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship and the broader community to
celebrate the success of tutoring programs and homework support
provided to refugee students in Brisbane during 2007.
The
theme of “Learning in Harmony” highlights the results that can be
achieved when Australians from different cultural backgrounds work
together towards educating our children. The booklets celebrate the
achievements of the young refugee students who participate in the
VoRTCS Refugee Tutoring Program.
The
booklets will be published both in hard copy and on this website, and
there will be 4 editions of the booklet over the next 12 months. Each
edition will have a different theme and will contain a collection of
stories, quotes, songs, drawings and photos of our students to
celebrate their achievements and our work together. All work in these
booklets is from the students involved in the Refugee Tutoring Program
and is in their own words.
The theme for the first booklet is celebrating students working together in harmony. This edition will be launched on 21 March in the Queen Street Mall during the official Harmony Day celebrations.
