Refugee + Arts

Refugee + Arts
The Refugee+Art program is a new program designed to enhance the confidence, self-esteem and language skills of the participants.

The program provides short series of free art classes for members of the refugee community in a variety of disciplines, including painting, puppet-making, kite-making and drawing cartoons.  Classes are conducted by experienced artists and usually involve a central theme for the series of classes, such as hope, family or courage.

Classes are conducted in English and allow for the participants to enhance their English language skills through story telling and group sharing, as well as make new friends within the refugee community.  Parents are encouraged to socialise during the sessions.

The first series of art classes will involve a small group of 8-14 year olds, who together will design and paint a local traffic signal box in the Annerley/Yeronga area.  The box will not only provide the participants with an accomplishment that shares their stories more widely, but will provide an enduring reminder of the valued place that refugees hold in the wider Brisbane community.

If you would like more information about the Refugee+Art Program, would like to make donations of equipment or be involved in art classes, please contact us at .
