Tutor meetings are held every eight weeks on a Monday night and may
be attended by all tutors who have completed our training and those who
are visiting a family. These meetings are a chance to discuss tutoring
sessions and any problems with fellow tutors and also to hear an
interesting guest speaker present on a different topic at each
meeting.
Some examples of previous guest speakers are:
- A member of the Sudanese Community spoke about their experiences in the refugee camps and settling in Australia
- A member of SALBAGO (the Sudanese Australian Lost Boys and Girls Organisation) spoke about their organisation and experiences
- The Australian Red Cross presented on their tracing service for refugees
- QPASTT presented on torture and trauma issues facing refugees
- Matthew
Albert, Victorian Young Australian of the Year in 2004, spoke about his
work with refugees through the SAIL program in Melbourne and his
experiences in visiting Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya
We
provide pizza for all tutors (a gold coin donation is appreciated to
help us meet the costs of this!). Tutor meetings start at 6pm and
generally run for approximately two hours, though you are welcome to
stay afterwards to chat with other tutors or the Committee.
Below is a list of all the dates for our tutor meetings in 2008. Each session starts at 6pm and is held at
