What information are we given about our family?

VoRTCS provides tutors with as much information as possible about their family.  This will generally include:

  • the family’s surname (remember that in some cultures different family members can have different surnames!);
  • the names, gender and ages of all members of the household;
  • the family’s address and phone number;
  • the family’s nationality, and ethnicity and religion if known;
  • what the family have requested help with;
  • whether the family are currently receiving any support from other organisations;
  • the name and contact details of the person who will be introducing you to your family.

However, sometimes the person referring the family is not able to provide us with complete information, and in these situations we will provide you with as much information as we can.  If there is additional information that you would like to know about your family, you can usually ask the person who will be introducing you to your family as they often have ongoing contact with family members.

Many of our tutors also contact their students’ school or TAFE teachers to get advice on what the students need help with.  Teachers are generally willing to assist with advice and resources where possible.  We can help you to contact the relevant schools or TAFEs if needed.
