The UNHCR recognises World Refugee Day as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the world’s refugee communities, and as such it should be a real celebration. On the 20th of June of each year, the UNHCR calls upon communities all over the world to join together in solidarity with the world’s refugee communities and celebrate the courage and triumphs of refugees everywhere.
In Queensland, VoRTCS, in partnership with Multicultural Affairs Queensland, is planning a huge week of festivities for World Refugee Day 2008. Spanning across the state, these events aim to celebrate the great cultural diversity and richness of Queensland’s new and emerging refugee communities, and the wonderful contributions made by refugees to the Queensland community.
The World Refugee Day Project further aims to raise awareness of refugee-related issues and to address negative stereotypes that exist towards refugees in the broader Australian community.
World Refugee Day 2008 is an opportunity for all Queenslanders to join together and celebrate through sporting, social and cultural events.
Now in its second year, the World Refugee Day Project is rapidly becoming a “not-to-be-missed” event on Queensland’s cultural calendar. So come on! Join with us in 2008 to celebrate World Refugee Day!
