Why celebrate World Refugee Day?
The UNHCR recognises World Refugee Day as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the world’s refugee communities, and as such it should be a real celebration.  On the 20th of June of each year, the UNHCR calls upon communities all over the world to join together in solidarity with the world’s refugee communities and celebrate the courage and triumphs of refugees everywhere.

The World Refugee Day Project further aims to raise awareness of refugee-related issues and to address negative stereotypes that exist towards refugees in the broader Australian community.

World Refugee Day is an opportunity for all Queenslanders to join together and celebrate through sporting, social and cultural events.

The World Refugee Day Project is rapidly becoming a “not-to-be-missed” event on Queensland’s cultural calendar.  So come on down and celebrate World Refugee Day!
